To keep the rare and beautiful lesser prairie-chicken from becoming extinct, conservation efforts are asking the FWS to change the bird’s current status from “threatened” to “endangered” so it gets the protection it deserves.
By protecting this imperiled grouse, we simultaneously preserve a landscape that is critical to sustaining a range of conservation and economic values, including wildlife habitat, recreation and tourism, as well as agriculture and ranching.
